Lucy Samms picked up the ball and raced through for the first score. Straight from the kick off the ball was picked up by Grace Doyle, some great interplay saw the ball in the hands of Gracie B aka "wheels" as she went on one her arcing runs to race over for the 2nd score. The referee, aka "Mr.Pedantic" then for some reason decided to start picking the girls up for silly things which was breaking the flow of the game.
In fairness most were technically correct. It mattered not ,as even with decisions going against them West park would not let up. Some brilliant rucking saw West Park turn the ball over they pushed forward as a unit and Scully dropped on the line for the 3rd. Straight from the littleborough kick Amelia blazed down the wing for number 4. The littleborough will was fractured at this point despite intervention from the referee, Grace Doyle picked up the ball in the centre after some awesome tackles and raced over the line for number 5.
This was quickly followed up by a 2nd from Scully for number 6. Again "mr pedantic " intervened which led to sharp conversation with a frustrated Coach Doyle. A passage of play then ensued with both sides guilty of losing the ball in the rucks. Hardly surprising as the girls seemed almost scared of being picked up by the referee. Normal service was resumed when Lucy broke free, she looked certain to score but some superb tackling by littleborough saw her held up on the line. The ball then broke free for Charlie to go over for number 7. Gracie B "wheels" then added number 8.
The half came to an end and the girls came off feeling upset with the refereeing. To be fair, West Park were never in danger of losing this game but the frustration was clear to see. A half time pep talk from Coach Doyle visibly lifted the girls' spirit. The second half was very bitty. Littleborough couldn't break the West Park defence. That was until "mr pedantic ' broke the play up yet again.
This resulted in littleborough going over for their only score. The West Park girls were having none of this. They ramped up the pressure again and littleborough couldn't live with it. Lucy then broke through the opposition defence to score her 3rd and West Park's 9th. As much as littleborough tried they were again no match for yellow and green machine as Gracie B went over for number 10 this was followed by a awesome try by Tilly for number 11 and Scully rounded it off with the 12th. Mr pedantic then brought the game to end. Coach Doyle gathered the troops for a debrief and expressed how proud she was of all the girls.
