enthusiastic opponents, resulting in a defeat for Park in this cup tie played on an artificial 3G pitch.
In very windy conditions throughout, the home side opened the scoring with an early try, after a
high kick was allowed to bounce on the artificial surface and re-gathered by Didsbury to score a try
wide out.
Another try was added soon afterwards as the home side moved the ball at speed across their
back line , outpacing the visitor’s defence to score , neither try being able to be converted.
West Park eventually settled into the game, and from a a line out quick handling by their backs saw centre
Liam Hill expertly dummy the defence to put in fellow centre Danny Green for a try which Jack Holland
converted.
However, after an untidy passage of play with mistakes on both sides going unpunished by the official, an
eventual ruck and maul led to a further try for the home side, again not converted, leaving a score of
15 pts to 7 pts at half time.
Not helped by the conditions the second half saw a further catalogue of errors and decisions by players and
the official alike, the home side once again moving the ball across the field to outpace the defence and add
another try, again not converted.
Park got back into the rhythm if not the pace of the game and added a second try from prop Tom Williams gathering
from a forwards drive to score, again not converted, as both side’s kickers were unable to master the gale force winds.
West Park will need to re-group for next week’s home fixture with Littleborough, but recruits Engelen, Platt and Davis
pressed into service this week should not be too dis-heartened as to their personal performances in this defeat.
