West Park (St Helens) RFC
Bolton RUFC
West Park were extremely unlucky not to take the spoils this week as they outscored Bolton in the try count but unfortunately not on the conversion count.
Bolton showed why they were a top of the table side with a good try in the opening 10 minutes.

Park then defended brilliantly for next 20 but were eventually broken down as Bolton scored their second to make it 14 nil.
A rare venture into the Bolton 22 late on in the half showed West Park had the makings of an upset. A good driving maul started by Joey Burrows at the line out was then taken on by not man of the match Tom Speight who showed why he should be pushing first team as he danced his way to the line. A tough conversion wide out was missed.
14 -5 at the break.

Park started the second half under the pump as Sam Thompson was sinbinned for defending his own line brilliantly. Frim the penalty Bolton opted to scrum but then lost their own ball and full back Ben Houlton who had packed down at 8 to add extra weight took full advantage. He fed the ball wide to MOM Danny Fletcher who belted up the left wing and then fed back inside to the support. Park had gone from their own 5 to within 2 metres of the Bolton line when punches began to fly thus ending the attack and giving Bolton the chance to recuperate. Ben Robinson and a Bolton man both been sent to the bin. Luckily Park were given the scrum and from didn't waste the territory. Sam Kerfoot eventually barged over after the ball had been put through numerous pairs of hands.

The conversion again missing from wide out.

Parks tails were up but Bolton some how managed to score a try out of nothing which was again converted. 21-10 with twenty to go.
The never say die attitude shown by Park was however undented by the try and they began to launch an assault on the Bolton line. A neat kick from not man of the match Tom Speight ended up in the hands of young winger Adam Smith as he out paced the Bolton cover to score. Even a change of kicker could not change Parks chances on the conversions as Dan Spencer missed by a couple of yards from more or less the tough line.

With 10 minutes to go Bolton just wanted the game to end as Park hammered their line with attack after attack. After a series of penalties the ball eventually found the try line as Park forwards drove over from close range. The score being out wide made it too difficult a conversion for Spencer who gave it a great effort but missed by a small margin.

Park had one final throw of the dice and regathered an attacking kick down the touch line, however the ball eventually made its way over the side line and from the line out Bolton saw the ball cleanly off the field. 21-20 the final score but West Park 2nds can be immensely proud of themselves as they showed they can challenge any side in this league on their day.
