Fleetwood RUFC
West Park (St Helens) RFC
West Park travelled to Fleetwood with only 17 players this week as some of the squad decided to prove their homosexuality by choosing to spend time with this strange species we call 'females'. Now some of you may say that the above is a contradictory statement but Brian Loughnane and many other club members say that 'no this still makes you gay!'
The players began with a warm up in which most players chose to adopt the handling skills of Jeremy Beadle. This did not fill coach, Rob Morley, with a great deal of confidence.
Despite the warm up, Park started the game superbly with a well worked try from their own half. Forwards and backs linked up to eventually provide a walk in at the corner for Jack Edwards. The conversion missed.
Fleetwood responded with a penalty and a try to put the game at 8 points to 5 at the break.

A few pointers at half time led to a much better display from West Park and they started to move the ball wide in order to avoid the big Fleetwood forwards.
Sam Thomson (without the p) scored a great try as a show and go deceived the Fleetwood defence and allowed him to score under the posts. He converted his own try as West Park were without new boy and standoff, Dan Spencer, who had been sin binned for using the opposition players' heads as target practice. His red shorts meant the ref could identify him easily.

West Park then made a decisive change as Jackie (the hero) Colquitt entered the fray. He rolled back the years to score a carbon copy of a try that he scored as first team debutante against Middlesborough way back in 2008. Only Rob Morley could remember that magnificent moment but it involved the portly winger diving in at the right edge after running as upright as a Nazi on parade and with his head bobbing like a pigeon on crack.
The conversion missed as Dan Spencer was still getting his head round the spectacle he had just witnessed.

A final injury meant that West Park had to use their 18th man. A new player who turned up on the 74th minute. Someone who noone had ever heard of. A man by the name of Longrodvanhugedong. He turned the ball over earning West Park a penalty which they kicked to touch. A great leap at the line out by Joe 'safe hands' Burrows gave West Park some good possession which allowed Dan Spencer the space to cut through the defence and score the final try which he converted.

MOM went to Sam Thompson (with a p) as he worked tirelessly in defence and made some crucial turn overs at key times in the game. A massive thanks must also go to Bill Collins and Graham Sams as they stepped up to the twos even when the thirds had an exciting fixture to play against LSH. A great performance all round and Tom Speight played OK.
