West Park Seconds picked up where they left off last season with a great win away to Preston Grasshoppers Thirds. The side featured many of the lads from last season but also included some new, young faces in the form of Dan Garner and Sean Allen both of whom were making their open age debuts.
Dan made a great start to his senior career when he unselfishly passed to his twin brother: Ben, who dove in wide out to give Park a 5 nil lead. Luke McMahon was unlucky not to add the extras.
Preston responded with a penalty just seconds later as a result of some poor discipline at the ruck.
Park extended their lead just before half time when a great cut out pass from Ben Robinson gave Garner (Ben) all the space he needed to grab his second.
McMahon again unfortunate with the conversion from the touchline - 10 nil at the break.
The second half was a more defensive affair with both sides putting in strong tackles; Sam Greenall leading the way for the Green and Gold with some superb hits and good turnovers throughout.
The only points of the half came from close range when Luke Platt came in off his wing to scrap through the Preston forwards and touch down.
Overall it was a day for the youngsters as Sean Allen received the MOM award for superb defence, great distribution and an all-round mature display, despite being at least 30 years younger than his opposite number. 15-3 the final score.
