West Park (St Helens) RFC
Littleborough RUFC
After a somewhat hesitant start, the home side subsequently dominated this game, and despite
failing to successfully complete several good attacking chances, were good value for the win,
which yielded maximum league points and confirmed them as continuing league leaders.

After a period of sustained pressure, Park opened the scoring as centre Green’s short pass was
collected by scrum half Smith to score a try which Holland converted. The lead was however short
lived as the visitors collected a kick and chase to score a try which was converted to level the scores.
West Park’s scrummage was proving decisive, and from a set piece centres Hill and Green combined
for the latter to score a fine try which Holland converted.

A successful penalty kick by the visitors narrowed the gap to four points, but as half time approached
another successful scrum saw the ball passed neatly between Hill and prop Berry , who fed fellow prop
Kimberley to crash over for a further try which again was successfully converted by Holland.

The 21 pts to 10 pts at the interval was a fair reflection of the game, despite the home side missing
several scoring chances often due to poor decision making , and Park’s dominance continued,
adding another try after an initial break by centre Green was carried on impressively by winger Littler
to register their fourth try and earn the bonus point.

With the game won substitutes Rosney, Ainsworth ,Thompson and new recruit Gaz Tudor were introduced
to replace Smith , Littler, Hill and an heroic effort from a long absent Rob Morley.

The home side were not phased by the changes, and a neat cross field move reached stand off Basley whose
break found full back Pape in support to score wide out. The conversion was missed, but on the stroke of full
time Park added another try from a 5 metre scrum by No 8 Potter, the kick from under the posts giving
winger Jack Holland a creditable five out of six successful conversions.

Next week West Park welcome Didsbury Toc H to Red Rocks, and will be looking to reverse the recent result
which saw them suffer a narrow cup defeat earlier this month.
