A gritty performance from West Park , with strong tackling aligned to some slick inter-passing
in attack , proved worthy of the maximum five league points attained , limiting good opposition
to four successful penalty kicks.
Within minutes of the start of the game the home side went into a six point lead , readily
converting two easy penalties, but a line break by by winger Jack Holland and an astute pass to
supporting centre Liam Hill brought a try to the visitors duly converted by Holland to edge them
into a single point lead.
The visitors conceded another penalty for an alleged high tackle, but were awarded two themselves
for similar offences, bringing the half time score to 13 pts to 9 pts in their favour.
Strong and robust defence from both teams kept the scores close until the visitors struck again with
two further tries half way through this second period.
From a line out some 10 metres from the home side’s line, a resulting maul provided hooker
Tom Williams with an opportunity to pick up and cross unopposed on the blind side, but too close to
the touchline to prevent the try being converted.
The visitors conceded another penalty to allow Littleborough to reduce the score to 18pts to 12 pts,
but some minutes later after stout defence from both sides, centre Danny Green made a powerful break
from close to his own line to find flanker Lewis Whitty in support to outpace the defence from some
30 metres out to score a try which Holland converted.
West Park appeared very much in control, and could and should have added further tries, but their pressure
eventually told as an excellent break by Jack Holland again found hooker Tom Williams in support to cross
for his second try, which Holland again converted.
Next week West Park entertain Tyldesley in the League Cup, from which, given a similar effort they would
look to successfully progress.
