Trafford MV RFCC
West Park (St Helens) RFC
Despite sharing a total of 12 tries as well as being awarded a penalty try, West Park contributed heavily
to their eventual defeat, converting only two tries, though twice hitting the upright, as well as gifting the
opposition three tries resulting from interceptions.

The visitors raced into an early lead, countering a home side’s penalty with two tries from hooker Williams, who first
took advantage of a concerted forwards drive from 15 metres and then was on hand supporting a fine break by full back Pape.
A crisp cross field move saw the ball reach winger Ainsworth who made some 20 metres before finding fellow winger
Appleton in support to cross for Park’s third try.

On the half hour mark , from broken play a neat dummy from centre Hill gave his fellow centre Basley an opportunity to
underline the visitors dominance to score a fourth try which was converted by Rosney to assure a bonus point., leaving
the score at 22 pts to 3 pts.

However the home side got a try soon afterwards from somewhat dubious build up play, and then added another with the
first interception try, both tries being expertly converted bringing the half time score to an unexpected 22 pts to 17 pts to Park.
Within minutes of the restart, centre Hill added to the visitors score, after some good approach work by second row Harris, the try
again not being able to be converted.

Converting another penalty and despite having a player sent to the sin bin the home side drew level with another converted try,
but then conceded a penalty try leaving the score at 34pts to 27pts to the visitors.

Shortly after resuming to a full 15 players the home side added a further converted try to tie the scores, and then took the lead
with converted try from another interception as the visitors pressed their line to regain the lead.

West Park continued to press with some fine inter-passing throughout the team, but allowed yet another interception, to provide
the home side with a lead, which despite a final try by Park’s winger Appleton proved unassailable, the attempted conversion
hitting the upright to deny the visitor a further bonus point.

Next week West Park entertain Aldwinians who defeated them in the Lancs Trophy on the opening day of the season, and will
no doubt look for suitable redress in this league fixture.
