West Park (St Helens) RFC
Tyldesley RUFC

A minutes silence was observed before the matches at Red Rocks to honour the memory of a
respected and previously top flight referee Dave Matthews, a true gentleman who lost his life
travelling home from last week’s match at Widnes . May he rest in peace.

West Park’s emphatic victory was a further testimony to the current young team’s self-belief
in their individual and collective abilities, and an obvious superior level of fitness this season.
Seven tries in each half, all competently converted by stand off Lee Rosney or winger Josh Ainsworth,
gives the impression that it was all one way traffic by the home side, but visitors Tyldesley continued
their efforts throughout to get back in the game, and were rewarded with five tries of their own and a
valuable bonus point in defeat.

Park’s tries were shared almost equally between their backs and forwards, and were often the result
of swift interplay and an awareness and appreciation of the support of teammates particularly in attack.
Speedy winger Matt Appleton continued to impress scoring two tries, as did the increasingly promising
flanker Jack Winstanley, surpassed however by the hat trick of tries by second row forward Lewis Harris.

Other, often memorable tries, came from backs Hill, Basley and Pape, whilst forwards Kimberley,Thompson,
Whitty and skipper Loughnane also contributed to this extraordinary scoreline.
Overall this was an excellent team performance, which hopefully be repeated next week when West Park
visit opponents Trafford MV
